TRUMP EXECUTIVE ORDER COULD DENY AMAL, GEORGE CLOONEY'S WIFE, ENTRY INTO THE U.S.

WASHINGTON, April 30, 2025 - Prominent human rights attorney Amal Clooney, along with others, may soon face U.S. sanctions that could prevent her from entering the United States, according to sources familiar with diplomatic communications between the U.S. and United Kingdom.
British Attorneys Warned About Potential Sanctions
On April 25, several senior attorneys from the United Kingdom, including Clooney, were reportedly "warned" that they may soon face sanctions from the Trump administration. These sanctions would impact their access to the United States and potentially freeze their assets.
The warnings stem from legal advice these attorneys provided to the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding its investigation into Israel's actions in Gaza.
Connection to ICC War Crimes Investigation
The attorneys had advised the ICC on whether there was sufficient evidence to charge Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant with war crimes and crimes against humanity related to Israel's military operations in Gaza against Hamas.
Last year, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant, as well as three Hamas leaders who have since died. Netanyahu and Gallant have rejected the charges as "absurd and false lies."
Other Prominent Legal Figures Also at Risk
According to sources, other British legal figures who received similar warnings include:
- Lord Justice Adrian Fulford, a former senior British judge
- Baroness Helena Kennedy of the Shaws, a Labour peer
- Danny Friedman, a barrister at Matrix Chambers
- Judge Theodor Meron, former president of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
- Elizabeth Wilmshurst KC
This panel of lawyers unanimously agreed with the ICC's decision to file charges against Israeli officials.
Precedent Set with ICC Prosecutor Sanctions
The potential sanctions follow President Trump's executive order in February that imposed sanctions on ICC prosecutor Karim Khan, a British resident. These sanctions blocked Khan's property and assets and suspended his entry into the U.S.
Trump's executive order included a 60-day deadline for recommendations on who else should face sanctions, which would have been April 7. While no additional sanctions have been officially announced, the warnings to British attorneys suggest further action may be imminent.
Clooney's Long-Standing U.S. Connections
Amal Clooney, born in Lebanon, emigrated with her family to the United Kingdom when she was just 2 years old. She has deep ties to the United States, having studied at New York University and been admitted to the New York bar in 2002. She is married to American actor George Clooney.
If sanctions similar to those imposed on Khan are applied to Clooney, she could potentially be barred from entering the United States and have any U.S. assets frozen.
The U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has not publicly commented on the situation, while the White House has not confirmed whether additional sanctions will be implemented against these legal professionals.
